Elements and Performance Criteria
- Plan and prepare for assisting underground in-seam directional drilling
- Access, interpret and apply assist underground in-seam directional drilling documentation, and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, read, interpret, clarify and confirm work requirements
- Identify and address potential risks, hazards and environmental issues and implement control measures
- Select and wear personal protective equipment appropriate for work activities
- Communicate and coordinate activities with others throughout the work activity
- Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- Load, unload and move tools and equipment
- Support the underground in-seam directional drilling process
- Position and number drill rods in readiness for drilling
- Inspect in-hole drilling components for damage
- Fit and remove in-hole drilling components to and from the drill string
- Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety of self, other personnel, plant and equipment
- Prepare for unplanned gas and water leakage
- Carry out basic maintenance of tools and equipment
- Monitor the drill rods for wear and damage and dress and grease threads
- Rotate rods in stack as and when required
- Perform inspections and routine checks on hoses and ancillary equipment and carryout remedial action
- Ensure that drill fluids are appropriately contained and disposed
- Complete housekeeping activities
- Process records
